Cosy family home

Leytonstone, Waltham Forest, London

This 1920s home in Leytonstone was lacking warmth and personality. Our job was to make it a cosy haven for all the family.

In the main reception, the fireplace was reinstated. We sourced a striking marble insert with wood surround, and reopened the chimney to allow an open fire. A strong neutral tone on the walls provides the perfect backdrop for plenty of texture: a family-sized sofa, layered rugs and modern upholstered ottoman. In the busy open-plan sitting room, we installed a log-burner, large Afghan rug and vintage art to create a calm yet sociable space.

The master bedroom was updated with a cheerful yellow headboard, mid-century bedside cabinets and a beautiful hand-felted wool throw.

Burnt orange velvet was used to transform a simple child’s bed into a luxurious day-bed, complete with colourful cushions in handwoven fabrics. In the office, deep chocolate walls create a haven from the rest of the house, whilst a blonde cowhide desk adds a touch of luxury.
